'I'm the owner': Head chef sets the record straight with clout-chasing patrons, putting them in their place when they brag about 'knowing the owner'

This restaurant owner put a couple of pompous customers in their place when she corrected them on their know-it-all behavior, reminding them that she was, in fact, the owner of the business.

There's nothing worse than customers who claim to 'know the owner' in an attempt to get special treatment at an establishment. Frankly, if you were buddies with the proprietor of this place, would you really want them to lose money on your account? No, you're just a money-grubbing clout-chaser trying to impress your friend group despite your lack of personality. Am I too harsh? Hardly. In my experience, whenever someone seeks a free hand out or special treatment at a restaurant or hotel, they're just proving how classless they really are. However, very rarely do we see those types of people shoving their foot in their mouth—but in this case, we get the lovely satisfaction.

    If they really knew the owner like they claimed, it would have been clear that they were talking to the owner herself. Sorry folks, we love your patronage, but nobody gets a gold star for boldly incorrect claims. Oops!

  • I'll be honest, I prefer the kitchen. my ex loved to interact with guests and get feedback on dishes and wines, so it worked well when I moved to the back of the house and he could pop out front to do his thing while I held down the back end of things. the side effect was, of course, that all the new ppl came to know him as the owner.

  • I'm in a volunteer position and do personal business at a few related businesses. Sometimes they give me deals and sometimes I pay full price for the service. I'll never ask for a "special" price because of position or friendship. I want them to succeed and I value the service they provide.
